Being a student myself, I know how stressful times can get and to help you out, I compiled the best laptops I could find so you can study without having any worries.

Without further ado, let’s get on with the article!

Table of Contents

1: Dell XPS 7390 Infinity Edge laptop

When it comes to students, dell produces the most effective laptops that fulfill all the needs of all kinds of students. Talking about psychology, dell has just the perfect laptop that isn’t too graphic yet has enough functions to be the perfect lightweight laptop for psychology students.

Display

Psychology students do not require much when it comes to displaying. The screen should be large with clear pixels and a good result. It is however essential that the brightness is not too overpowering since students spend their majority time in front of a laptop.

The Dell XPS 7390 is known for having an excellent 4K display. It has a 15–:1 contrast ratio providing high definition results. Since colors play an important role in psychology, having a vibrant screen that shows clear colors is a plus point. The colors are also helped a great deal with the 100% RGB color spectrum. This helps achieve clear and crisp images.

It has a maximum brightness of 400 nits, bright enough to see clearly but doesn’t damage the eyes. The laptop also has an anti-reflective coating which helps overcome the excess reflection from ambient lights. This means you can take your classes or make your notes just about anywhere!

Performance

Since psychology students don’t need large applications and heavy data files, this is the perfect laptop for them. It has the Comet Lake core i7 processor, which if needed, can handle heavy files as well. You can edit pictures, transcode videos, or even play low definition games. This laptop is the fastest among all its competitors.

Storage

The XPS 7390 has a storage of 4GB with 128GB SSD. That is enough to rule out any second thoughts you might be having about this laptop. It has a great memory space to save up all your work and assignments. It even has ample space to serve as your laptop, saving up your pictures and memories.

Other traits

The most amazing feature is its extremely thin bezels. The screen to body ratio of 80% steals the hearts of all eyes that land on it. The cutting edge border contains a 2.25 mm webcam, small enough to fit in the tiny border. The webcam has a 720p result that works great for online classes and conferences.

The laptop is super light and is easy to carry almost everywhere. This comes in handy since it can be easily carried to and from your classes.

Pros

  • Thin light body – easily portable
  • Lots of ports
  • Powerful performance

Cons

  • A slightly uncomfortable keyboard makes typing hard

2: LG Gram 14Z90N Laptop

The next on my list is the Korean alternative of Samsung laptops. The LG Gram series are known for being lightweight yet no compromise is made when it comes to quality and efficiency. From high memory to great screen resolution, it has everything that a psychology student might need. This makes it the best laptop for psychologists.

Display

The display of the LG Gram is perhaps the most astounding feature of all. It has a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 Mps, providing clear and vibrant images that help in making great presentations. The brightness is pretty adequate as well, which prevents your eyes from strain.

The contrast ratio isn’t astounding but then this laptop isn’t needed by a graphics student. For a psychologist, the 1330:1 contrast ratio is enough to provide popping pictures with plenty of textures.

Performance

As for the technical stuff, it harbors a 10th generation Intel Core i7 – 1065G7 CPU processor. It has a base frequency of 1.3GHz, making it an adequately run machine. The LG gram does run a tad bit slower since the cooling system isn’t the most efficient one. The overheating tends to slow down the whole system.

The lack of fans, however, results in noiseless performance, meaning you can make your assignments and study in peace. It does not have a dedicated GPU; hence, it isn’t a game machine. It does have Plus Graphics installed so you can work on high-definition graphics and play a few games although heavy games are a plain no-no.

Storage

Next, we will talk about the most important spec. How many files can you store inside this machine until it runs out of space? The answer is plenty. Supporting a 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, this laptop has one of the leading brands installed when it comes to drives. This gives you ample space to save year-old files without ever running out of space.

Other traits

As a student, I understand how hard it is to sit in front of a laptop all day typing away. What’s even more frustrating is when the touchpad and keyboard refuse to cooperate or are just not made for convenience.

The palm rest is large enough for you to easily roam your fingers on while getting maximum use out of. It lacks buttons, however, which might be a con, considering the hectic days require ease of use.

The laptop is lightweight and the functionality is not compromised by its size. It is resistant and works well. The memory is large enough to accommodate all files that a psychology student might need and the processor works well enough as well.

Pros

  • Spacious keyboard
  • Great battery life for on-campus classes
  • Plenty of expansion ports

Cons

  • Noisy when working

Another easy to go everyday laptop brand is ASUS. They’re known for producing extremely lightweight and efficient laptops. Whether you’re a student fresh into university or are a senior doing Ph.D., this laptop is bound to help you nevertheless. It’s easily locatable keys and large memory makes it the best laptop for psychology Ph.D. students.

Display

Let’s start with the display; the Vivobook has a 15.6-inch display having a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Although it is the average resolution, it is noted that colors are slightly washed out. The images, however, are sharp enough and can be used for everyday purposes.

The brightness was taken into consideration too since Vivobook users are usually every-day workers sitting in front of their laptops all day long. It has a good 205 nits that are just enough for indoor usage. If you study outside, this might not be your laptop.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the Vivobook is just perfect for sedentary users. Running the Intel Core i3 processor, it has just enough power to fuel your everyday activities. Of course, it is not meant for heavy-duty tasks like gaming or running heavy applications.

The device works well when handling different tasks at once. You can run multiple tabs and play videos in the back and you will not face even the slightest lagging issues.

The storage is a good 8GB RAM, certainly lesser than our last one however it is enough to store all basic files and presentations. ASUS is everything that a psychology student might need.

Other traits

The thing that I like the most about this laptop is the keypad. It has keys spaced at even distances that make typing an easy and non-tiring process. It is made for students like us that have to type all day long.

Since university and Ph.D. level students do not spare a minute of the day, the keyboard has backlight features as well. This helps make your nights productive as well.

Pros

  • Beautiful sleek design
  • Small bezels provide a large display for presentations
  • Has a large port selection

Cons

  • Average battery life

4: Apple MacBook Pro

Apple is always the choice of students. Macbooks are light and stylish. They fit almost everywhere and have awesome features. The keypads are a little troublesome but that problem is fixed as well now. For psychologists, this is a pretty great option as it can be carried anywhere anytime.

Display

The small yet brilliant display is one of the reasons why it is always chosen by students. It has a 13.3-inch panel with high resolution. The resolution ranges from a full HD and a 4K. It measures around 1560 by 1600 pixels. The colors that appear are bright and the text is sharp and easy to read.

An amazing addition is the true tone feature that optimizes the white balance of the screen. This helps the screen adjust to bright lights.

Performance

Although the MacBook laptop functions pretty well and you will be surprised to find out that it doesn’t harbor a core i7. Instead, it has a core i5 that works equally well and provides high-quality performance and great speed. For psychologists, it is indeed a great tool.

Storage

When it comes to storage, I require a large memory device. I am harboring and you will find old pictures and movies and pretty much everything on my laptop along with my notes. The MacBook Pros helps me do this. It has a 512 SSD that achieves a speed of 2318MBps. This means that the laptop does not lag even when the memory gets almost full.

 Other traits

The MacBook has an exceptional camera for attending all your classes and conferences. It is equipped with a 720p camera that provides adequate quality results. Apart from the occasional graininess of the cameras that laptop cameras always have, the camera delivers clear and sharp results.

The laptop further has a fingerprint scanner so that your documents remain safe and secure. The fingerprint scanner located on top of the keyboard also works as a power button so you can easily open your laptop.

Pros

  • Larger capacity SSD
  • Great keyboard for easy note-taking
  • Smart and sleek design

Cons

  • Needs constant updating hence expensive to maintain

5: HP Spectre x360

Next on my list is one of the HP models. Being an HP user myself, I find this brand affordable with great specs. The performance is high quality and the make is just beautiful. Their HP Spectre x360 does not disappoint either. It has the most eye-catching features, no doubt, and has the most beautiful construction I’ve landed my eyes on.

Display

The Spectre x360 is known for its AMOLED display. The active matrix organic light-emitting decode display makes your viewing experience ten times better. The 4K UHD resolution, consisting of 3840 x 2160 pixels makes the display a state-of-art piece. It even has 10-point touch support.

What sets this display apart is the AMOLED technology. It uses its lighting sources. This helps achieve an infrared color ratio that gives you vibrant and dynamic screen results. Now, whether you have a presentation or need the laptop to study, the display won’t be a problem.

Not to forget, the brightness is a beautiful 400 nits, that is bright enough to use outdoors as well. The screen also has an anti-glare treatment that keeps your eyes protected even through long overnight study sessions. It also does a great job resisting harsh fingerprints.

Performance

The Spectre x360 is the best laptop for psychology Ph.D. students. It proves so by having a high-quality performance that serves well even through the most exhausting times. Harboring a 6 Core, 12-thread Intel Core i7 processor, it works fast with its 5GHz turbo clock.

The laptop is even fit for 1080p gaming once you get tired of studying psychology. After all, as psychologists, you must know that all work and no play make Jack a dull boy!

Storage

The laptop has an average memory of 8GB RAM, which isn’t exceptional but is enough to store all mediocre files and low weight applications. It has a 512GB SSD and 32GB optane memory that further helps speed the quality up.

Other traits

The one thing that HP Spectre promises and never fails to deliver is privacy. Since your researches are important to you and need to be kept secure, this laptop is a great tool to achieve that.

Firstly, it has the Windows Hello feature. The webcam recognizes your face and lets you enter the database. It lets you do so even in dimly lit conditions due to the IR camera array and the HD webcam.

The webcam also automatically stops working when not in use, and a fingerprint scanner is installed just above the keyboard as well for added security.

Pros

  • The stylish finish looks good when carrying around
  • All-around performance lets you perform all tasks
  • Built-in security feature

Cons

  • Gets hot easily

6: Lenovo Thinkpad E15

The last on my list today is the Lenovo Thinkpad E15. Lenovo produces great models that are not only lightweight but highly functional as well. Let’s check out how.

Display

The Lenovo Thinkpad offers two different screen options, a feature that most laptops lack. There is a TN panel with HD resolution, 1366 x 768, and an FHD screen, 1920 x 1080. This is based on IPS technology. However, I would recommend selecting the FHD screen instead of the HD screen for regular use.

Performance

The performance is indeed exceptional making it the best laptop for psychology students. Made by the Intel core i5 comet lake processor, the device has four cores and a clock rate of 4.8GHz.

Storage

The laptop has an 8GB memory space along with a 1TB hard drive that is enough storage to save years worth of files and documents.

Other traits

Lenovo beams like a proud mom at the long-life of its battery. Having a 45W battery, it can last for hours and pull you through all-nighters.

The power consumption is excellent as well. It uses such low battery output which leads to longer battery life. This indicates that the system is optimized as well.

The only flaw with the laptop is that Lenovo did nothing to manage the temperature issues. The laptop gets heated easily and does not have enough cooling input to lower the amount of exhaustion. Instead of a maximum of 58.1 degrees, it runs a 67.1 degrees temperature under extreme conditions.

Pros

  • Affordable price for students
  • Good construction
  • Good keyboard

Cons

  • Gets heated easily
